Nightmare DIY 1: Cake. Martha Stewart can squirt some frosting here and there on a cake and it looks amazing, but decorating a cake is not that simple. Martha has been trained. She has staff who have been trained. As for me, I’ve had my moments in the kitchen when I forget to add the teaspoon of vanilla and the double stacked cake is crumbling off the tray as I’m frantically slapping on icing to hold it together. Do not attempt to make your own cake.
Nightmare DIY 3: Bridesmaid Dresses. Remember learning the basics of sewing as a kid? It’s easy. Get some fabric, cut, thread the needle, and wala, right? Wrong. Sewing delicate fabrics requires patience, skill and concentration. Frankly, there are other areas of the wedding I’d rather focus on than looking at every poorly sewn detail as the ceremony is about to begin.
Nightmare DIY 4: Bride’s Dress. If you thought sewing together a bridesmaid dress was a nightmare, think of your dress…and then actually wearing it. Do not do it. You do not want to obsess over the dress during the ceremony and reception.
Nightmare DIY 5: Photos. So the infamous Uncle Griswold has volunteered to snap random pictures the entire wedding night. Probably not a good idea. We’d all probably be better off if we stuck a smartphone to our dress and snapped random pictures that way. So please hire a photographer even if it is for one portrait..
Of course, there are plenty of things you can do yourself-make labels, favors, save-the-dates, etc.
In the end, it is the actual joining of you and your fiance as husband and wife that matters the most. Why waste time and energy trying to do it yourself. Leave the stress to the professionals!

At 2tarts Bakery & Catering we live and breathe weddings. We read all the wedding blogs, constantly scan the shelves at the grocery store for the latest wedding magazine, and we also have a serious addiction to the wedding boards on Pinterest .
Why as bakers/business owners/artists/mothers/farmers/crazy busy women would we spend so much time and energy doing all this information gathering? Well, because we LOVE weddings! Especially the desserts at weddings.
We love sitting down with a Bride and talking about flavors, colors, flowers, and the latest cake design we are obsessed with. We love getting to know each Bride; her style, her likes and dislikes, her vision! On average we spend 10 to 20 hours meeting, calling, emailing each Bride. (This doesn’t even include time spent baking or decorating each cake.) We do this to insure that the Wedding Cake that we deliver is exactly what the Bride wants.

Brides choose 2tarts because they can see our desire to create delicious and beautiful cakes that reflect their personality. You are salty/sweet girl, we make you a Chocolate Ganache Cake topped with Bacon.
You don’t like cake? No worries! We will make you a Dessert Bar with Apple Tarts, Cheesecake Brownies, & Salty Sage Shortbread Cookies.
In the end, the shared passion we have for weddings will ensure that everything created for YOU will be made with lots and lots of Love.
Peace & Love from your dearest Tart Family, Sisters April & Ashley

A few years ago dessert table pioneer, Amy Atlas, brought the delectable art of styled tables filled with sweets to the forefront of the event community. Today the trickle of this trend has turned into a waterfall…making dessert tables a standing staple in the event and wedding world. Of course we here at Styled Yum always believe a dessert table to be a necessity of any stylish affair…and here’s a few reasons why:
1. You can have it all! Instead of only focusing on two traditional flavors and desserts (wedding cake and groom’s cake) you can instead put together all of your faves. Hubby loves key lime pie? Wifey adores chocolate caramel cupcakes? The flower girl’s fave are strawberry lemonade cake pops? The true joy of a dessert table is your choices are absolutely endless.
2. Your dessert table becomes a focal centerpiece of your reception decor. From the colors, to the printables, to the overall concept and design, your dessert table should tie in and reflect all the small details of your wedding.
3. You can still have your wedding cake! Just because you have chosen to have a dessert table at your wedding reception, does not mean you have to let go of the cake you’ve always wanted. There are two options Styled Yum encourages, and both are delightful. Your first option is integrating your wedding cake into your dessert table. This can make for a very striking and dramatic effect, while keeping your cake as the centerpiece of the table. Your second option is crafting your dessert table as something separate…often being used as a favor for your guests to pack up and take home.
Styled Yum is absolutely elated to be a part of Entwined 2012. Working with genius bakers and artisans such as San Antonio Cake, 2tarts Bakery, and CookieCraft is going to bring this dessert table to such great heights. We can’t wait!
