Oh the power of art. Most recently we had the honor of being selected to participate in providing decor for the highly anticipate Andy Warhol Fame and Misfortune art exhibition. This exhibit featured close to 150 pieces of work revolving around the career of this iconic artist. The artwork provided a wonderful source of inspiration to create decor themed within the realms of his work. Utilizing props such as sunglasses, film strips, soup cans, and even fresh produce; we were able to convey his vision through the art of flowers.

This event was a perfect example of how taking one element as inspiration can really carry a theme throughout the decor without it being “over the top” or “cliche”. Never be afraid to be daring in your statement pieces for your events. Always push the boundaries so that your decor will be a topic of discussion the entire evening and leaves your guests ooohhing and ahhhing and ranting and raving!

Happy Sunday from Country Sugar Events! January and February are primo shopping months for brides. We get tons of questions about fits, styles, fabrics, and designers of wedding gowns. We love reaching out to our local fashion expert Erin Busbee of Busbee Style. Sit back as Erin gives us the skinny on wedding day fashion lingo.

Before you embark on one of the most important fashion journeys of your life, you might want to take a minute to brush up on your bridal gown lingo. The following are the important words used to describe dress necklines, styles and fabrics.

NECKLINES

Strapless: This is perhaps the most common trait among bridal dresses. It means quite literally that the dress has no straps. The neckline varies. It can be straight across or sweetheart (see below)

Sweetheart:  A sweetheart neckline is one of the most popular among brides. It looks like the top half of a heart (slight v dip in the middle). A dress featuring this neckline is also usually strapless.

Halter:  This dress has a deep v in the front and straps that tie high around your neck much like a halter-top.

Bateau or Boat:   Scooped in the front and back. This style follows the collarbone from one shoulder to the other. (Think shape of a half moon).

One-Shoulder:  This style kinda speaks for itself. The dress has one shoulder strap only.

Portrait:  It looks like there is a shawl wrapped around the top of your dress. It really frames your face.

Deep V:  The plunging V is great for the bride who wants to be sexy on her wedding day. I wouldn’t recommend this neckline for well-endowed ladies.

There are several other necklines, but they are pretty obscure so I won’t overcomplicate things.

STYLES

Princess:  This is a type of dress that brides who want to go all out… gravitate towards. The princess dress has a fitted bodice and a very full skirt. Often a petticoat is worn under the skirt to add even more oomph. Think Cinderella.

A-Line:  Like the princess dress, the A-line is fitted through the body and has a fuller skirt. But, the skirt is usually a lot LESS full than the princess dress. This is a universally flattering silhouette and is great for covering up the hips and thighs.

Mermaid:  This is a great silhouette for a skinny bride who wants to create curves. The dress is fitted through the body, waist and hips. At the knee or slightly above, the skirt becomes full like a fish tail (hence, mermaid).

Sheath:  This is a simple dress with no fullness. It is usually fitted and therefore unforgiving. The simplicity of the silhouette makes it ideal for the beach or a more casual setting.

Empire:  Often the narrowest part of a woman is not her waist, but several inches higher just below her breasts. The empire waist highlights that area. This style is elegant and flattering on most women. It’s also a must for the expectant bride.

FABRICS

You’ll also see bridal gowns in a variety of fabrics from lace to silk to taffeta to tulle. Tulle and organza are hugely popular right now. They are the fabrics that remind you of your old ballet tutu.

After learning more about the silhouettes and necklines, it’s helpful visualize which styles will be the most flattering on your body. That way, you won’t be clueless when you start shopping. Good luck!

ooo, la-la!! thanks Erin!

Every girl looks forward to the day she gets to pick her wedding dress. Not only is it a beautiful white dress you’ll wear when marrying your future husband, but it is probably one of the coolest shopping experiences you’ll ever have!  And, if you love shopping and dresses (like me), then it could easily be considered the epitome of all shopping experiences!

Now, not to sound negative, but I do have a complaint about shopping. . .the level of comfort and environment in the fitting rooms. They can be a scary place. The lighting is a bright shade of fluorescent (ick!), and the mirrors are not always forgiving, and sometimes you find yourself clearing out room from the previous shopper’s mess (well, depending on where you are). . .and not mention they can sometimes be too cold or too hot!  While most Bridal Boutiques hold a higher standard than your trusty TJ Maxx around the corner, you just never know what to expect!

The Solution?  {Beautiful} You Bridal Boutique owned by the lovely Shelsea Stevens-Becker.  It is a personalized wedding dress shopping experience unlike any other and a genius idea for every bride-to-be!  It is the Hill Country’s premier Bridal Boutique with a storefront located in Marble Falls, Texas with mobile (that’s right! mobile) capability!

I had the amazing opportunity to select my wedding dress from her beautiful line of Kathy Ireland dresses. Not only does she come to YOU – but she brings with her racks and racks of beautiful dresses in sample sizes, the same exact way you would try on dresses at a storefront.  She also brings with her large photo books of the bridal line, so if you find a particular fit and style you like, you can search through dozens and dozens of photos of similar ones!

I have been to Bridal Boutiques before with my sister and friends. The experiences there are
wonderful, however, if you are seeking a truly unique shopping experience
customized just for YOU then {Beautiful} You Bridal Boutique is your perfect solution!

Keep your eyes out for my next post where I’ll share details
about our wonderful experiences so far with the Oh-So talented Anne Marie Photography!

With all the balloon inspiration out there these days, it’s easy to get carried away. I have been using balloons more and more in my styling lately. They have always been a fun fit for children’s parties, but now they are available in so many colors and styles they are becoming a design staple at big people events too! There are so many ways to

utilize them:

as an aisle decor

as a backdrop

or just fun prop

I love the look of these big balloons when used with the mettallic tassels. It really makes my heart skip a beat.

I believe this is the year the balloon makes it’s BIG comeback and when done right they can add that lift you need to take your decor to the highest level. Just a word from the wise: if planning to use these, rent a tank on location. Never try to cram these all into the back of your car, no matter how small your event. Trust me. :)

Brandi from Country Sugar Events and Traci and Kellie from Anne Marie Photography joined Annie, her mom, and her sister for a fun-filled wedding day back in November. The day started with wedding dress shopping and a venue tour, and culminated in a private appointment at Bella Bridesmaid in San Antonio, Texas. Bridesmaid dress shopping can be an absolute blast. So many colors, textures, fabrics, and styles to consider. It can be overwhelming, but if done at a boutique like Bella Bridesmaid…it’s stress free and quite enlightening about your wedding style.

You should never shop for the bridesmaid dresses until you have chosen your own dress…but this does need to be done very soon after. This gives your girls time enough to save any needed money, order, and get any necessary alterations done. Annie even joined in the fun and tried on some dresses herself. Here’s some great photos by Anne Marie Photography giving you a sneak peek of the process.

Happy Tuesday, Y’all!

Everyone knows that one of the best parts about weddings is the food. . .which usually resembles the personality and tastes of the newlyweds!  Some couples opt to serve their favorite passed hors d’oeuvres while others have beautiful displays of oysters on the half shell. Decadent desserts and delightful bites . . . my mouth is watering now.

Another great edible edition of weddings to love?  The cake.  Ever since I was a little girl, I have suffered from a bad sweet tooth, and a I am self-proclaimed wedding cake lover. Whoever invented the idea to have not one but two cakes at a wedding is sheer genius to me.

Tyler and I get to meet with the amazing Sullivan Street Caterers and 2Tarts Bakery this weekend and we couldn’t be more excited about it!  Head on over and check out the photos on Sullivan Street’s facebook page and your mouth will water too!  They are the talented and creative Hill Country Caterer based in Blanco, and they already have some killer ideas to make our wedding weekend menu extra special.

If someone was monitoring my internet activity, they would know how excited I am about 2Tarts Bakery. This adorable bakery, run by two sisters, is located in New Braunfels and has the yummiest cake flavors in the south!  A few include Chocolate cake with Peanut
Butter icing, Strawberry cake with Lime Butter Cream or the traditional Vanilla Bean with Vanilla Swiss Meringue Butter Cream.
What a “treat” to work with such talent! That’s all for now folks!  Look for my next blog post where I will share my wonderful experience selecting my wedding dress with {Beautiful} You Bridal Boutique!
